Piarb May 2022 Fellowship

On May 26, 2022, the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators (PIArb) and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asia Branch, Philippine Chapter held their joint fellowship online. Professor Dr. Jan Kleinheisterkamp, an independent arbitrator based in Brussels and a visiting faculty of the London School of Economics was the guest speaker.

After PIArb President Julius Anthony R. Omila gave the welcome remarks, Prof. Jan discussed his topic on the potential and difficulties of combining arbitration and mediation in resolving disputes. A short fellowship among the participants immediately followed in the breakout rooms. Thereafter, featured PIArb member of the month Mr. Ish Jain, an independent arbitrator and mediator based in Mumbai, India, gave his reaction to Prof. Jan’s presentation. This was followed by an open forum where a lively discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of multi-tiered dispute resolution clauses ensued. The event was hosted by PIArb Assistant Vice President for Fellowships and Member Relations Luis de la Paz. The next joint fellowship is set on June 23, 2022.
